Improv Systems Offers Integrated Development Environment Combining Jazz DSP Cores With ARM Microprocessors
BEVERLY, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 7, 2001--
Improv Systems(TM) Inc., a pioneer in configurable DSPs for
communications and media, today announced the availability of a new
integrated development environment for designing system-on-chip (SoC)
solutions with ARM® embedded RISC microprocessors. The solution
consists of a development board which implements Improv's configurable
methodology and its Jazz DSP cores, and interfaces directly with the
ARM Integrator(TM) board. This allows designers to model the
integration of ARM's market-leading RISC microprocessor cores with a
Jazz-based SoC.
The new Improv Jazz Rehearsal Core Module for the ARM®
Integrator Platform delivers an FPGA implementation of up to three of
Improv's Jazz processors, each contained on an individual, stackable
card. The board is integrated with the ARM Integrator/AP platform
through a high-performance host bus interface, the AMBA(TM) bus,
allowing designers to develop applications and test designs based on a
combination of the two companies' technologies. This incorporates
ARM's two recently-announced new configurations for the SoC system
architecture: Multi-layer Advanced High-performance Bus (AHB) and
AHB-Lite (ARM Launches Multi-Layer AHB and AHB-Lite, Mar. 19, 2001).
The environment is fully integrated with Improv's comprehensive
development tool suite for Jazz, which features a Java-based
application development and debug environment, an advanced compiler,
an intuitive graphical environment for customizing the Jazz processor,
and a cycle accurate instruction set simulator.
``There is a tremendous demand to integrate high-performance RISC
processors such as those from ARM with DSP functionality on a single
chip,'' said Steve Brightfield, vice president of Marketing at Improv.
``We are not only providing that through an integrated design
environment, but also offering designers the benefits of our
configurable methodology, which provides a much more flexible and
efficient approach to developing products for fast-moving and diverse
markets like the communications space.''
``System-on-chip design involves much more than just integrating
multiple discrete components. Designers need a comprehensive and
robust development environment to emulate the complete system,'' said
Steve Evans, vice president of Segment Marketing, ARM. ``The ARM
Integrator prototyping system, together with Improv's Rehearsal
solution, offers a powerful platform for the integration of two
critical components of an SoC. In addition, the configurable
methodology Improv provides gives designers options and scalability
for a variety of implementations and application alternatives. We feel
this development environment is an ideal way to design ARM core-based
configurable systems for applications with intensive signal processing
requirements.''
The first public demonstration of the Improv Jazz Rehearsal Core
Module for the ARM Integrator Platform will be an implementation of
Improv's Voice over Packet Network Integrated Access Device SOC
solution at the Networld Interop show in Las Vegas on May 8, 9, and
10. The demonstration can be viewed at both the ARM booth (8838) and
the Improv booth (8644).
Pricing and Availability
The Improv Jazz Rehearsal Core Module for the ARM Integrator
Platform is available now for $7500, lead time of 4-8 weeks.
